Our 2012 AGM was held in the Faculty of Advocates’ MacKenzie Building in Edinburgh on Saturday 17 November. David Sellar, Lord Lyon King of Arms and a former Literary Director of the Society, was elected Vice President in place of the late Professor Bill Gordon. Dr Karen Baston, Research and KE Data Management Officer at the University of Edinburgh School of Law, and Malcolm Combe, solicitor and lecturer in law at the University of Aberdeen were elected as members of Council in place of Professor George Gretton and Dot Reid, who retired by rotation.
At the AGM the annual address was delivered by Professor Norma Dawson and was entitled 'Letters from Inveraray: The Correspondence between the 8th Duke of Argyll and the 1st Marquess of Dufferin and Ava (with particular reference to the Irish Land Question)'. Professor Dawson is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and President of the Irish Legal History Society. She has been Professor of Law at Queen’s University Belfast since 1995. She was Head of the Department of Private Law from 1989 to 1994, and Director of the School of Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law from 1994 to 1997. She was a member of the Legal Services Review Group which reported in 2006 (Legal Services in Northern Ireland, tSO, 2006) and she is a member of the Judicial Studies Board (NI).
The Society’s 78th AGM will be held in Edinburgh on Saturday 16 November 2013 and further details will be published in the autumn.
