The Stair Society: Scotland’s Legal History Society

Funding

The Stair Society receives no external funding. We rely on members’ subscriptions, income derived from an investment portfolio, and royalties received from the online publication of our volumes.

We welcome donations and bequests to provide assistance with the furtherance of our charitable objectives – please contact us for further information.

Grant Making Policy

Our Council has reviewed the operation and outcomes of the Society’s postgraduate bursaries scheme and concluded that the Society is no longer able to achieve the intitial objectives set out for the scheme and will therefore cease offering monetary awards on a regular basis. The Stair Society however remains open to funding suitable research projects subject to its case reserves at time of application. (AGM, 17 November 2018)

Alternative funding to assist with relevant research may be available from other sources, such as The Clark Foundation for Legal Education.
